A woman who wants to motivate consumers to consume responsibly

Lidia Estevez Picon

My idea that matters… As consumers we can have a great impact in the world when deciding which products to buy. That impact can be positive or negative. By buying certain products we can contribute to phenomena such as trafficking of human beings, or child labour. It is thus important to get informed of what is behind the things we buy and how we can become part of the solution instead of being part of the problem.

My stagiaire path… I was a trainee at the office of the EU Anti-trafficking Coordinator during the winter stage 2011-2012. I stayed there until mid-June and now I am working  in the visa policy unit of DG Home. Before that I had been a trainee in different NGOs in Spain and in Italy.

I accepted the invitation to speak at the Stagiaires’ Ideas that Matter #2 event, because… I think it is a great project. I wasn’t able to do it during the first round and I was really happy to have the possibility to do it this time.

My source of inspiration… All those people and organisations that care about the effect that their everyday consuming actions can have in the world.
