On 22 February 2012, a public of almost 150 people participated in the first, but hopefully not the last, edition of Stagiaires’ Ideas That Matter.
The videos of all the stagiaires speakers are now available via their personal speaker pages, which you can find via speakers.
Well, that’s enough of words. Time to take a look at some of the videos. Here’s is Basia‘s:
Today, at 18.30 at the Hub, it is going to happen: after two months of preparation, Ideas That Matter is finally taking place. Team and speakers are really ready for it, so we hope you are as well?
Paul Arinaga: use images, limit text on slides
Public speaking is a skill, and thus, like every skill, something you can learn. With that thought in mind, we invited public speaking coach Paul Arinaga of Red Phoenix Agency to do a workshop with us.
During the workshop, Paul shared his vision on the ‘Smart Presenter’ – also the title of a soon-to-be-released book by him and his co-author Lars Sudmann. After Paul’s introduction, all speakers got the chance to give a 5-minute version of their talk, whilst the jury brutally counted the number of ‘errs’ and ‘uhms’. Through feedback from Paul and the other speakers, all speakers now have the chance to have another look at their presentation and to reformulate some of their ideas.
The floor is Valeria's!
However, it seem that the standard is already set very high. With a nice mix of serious business about climate change, sustainability and energy, in combination with personal stories around our activist dreams and role models, we are sure that Ideas That Matter is going to be an exciting roller coaster of ideas!
Since our brainstorm last week, the Ideas That Matter speakers have been working hard on the preparation of their speeches.
Of course, preparing a speech needs thinking, drafting, reshaping, further brainstorming, throwing aboard some ideas and replacing them by others. By now, we can already present seven of our speakers: take a look at their presentation. And in order to even better ensure great quality and fun on the 22nd, this Thursday public speaking coach Paul Arinaga from Red Phoenix Agency will hold a customised workshop on smart presentation skills.
Registration to the Ideas That Matter event is now open. You can register via the online form. The event takes place on Wednesday 22 February from 18.30 to 21.30 at The Hub Brussels, Rue du Prince Royal 37

What are all of these Ideas that Matter that we keep talking about?
Detailed information about the speakers and their topics will follow during next week, but the Ideas that Matter co-ordinators are proud to give you a preview of what to expect already. The three of us had the pleasure of meeting with most of the speakers in an introductory meeting on Wednesday night, and all of us were filled with inspiration as we left. One of the best things with organising this event is the surprises – we are providing the logistics, the initial ideas, and the external speakers, but you are providing everything else! We are absolutely thrilled with the ideas so far and we hope you will be too.
On Wednesday 22 February, we will all learn more about the third industrial, environmentally friendly, revolution; the rights, and lack thereof, of LBGT people; the way culture and tradition impact young people around the world today; female rolemodels and feminism; sustainable mobility and what future urban transport will be like; the impact of fiscal havens on the wider economy; and how you can lead change and make a difference, from grass roots involvement to high level negotiations.
Pretty fascinating stuff, right? And we have our lovely speakers to thank for this! Keep checking the website and we will provide you with all the information about the speakers and the presentations shortly.
Twenty more days to go! The Ideas That Matter team has been working hard over the last days and we made a lot of progress towards our exciting event on the 22 of February.
